CHOI JEONG-YOON
The work of Choi Jeong-Yoon is mainly in ceramics and installation art. He believes the conceptual truth of the root of human culture and desire is a sword, and attempts to visualize it. The artist’s viewpoint on a sword is not focused on its destructive function. He recognizes a sword as an object with a more original and productive function. The form of swod is remade in his work, and the organic shapes of flowers with dyed threads in splendid colors is combined to create a new form. The artist’s idea about the essence of flowers is their desirability, hidden under splendor.
Thus, it goes with his idea on a sword that believes it as a conceptual truth of human desire. Choi Jeong-Yoon graduated from the Seoul National University with a Master’s degree in Ceramics, and has exhibited at distinguished institutes around the world including the Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale in 2015. His work is collected by the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Chosun Ilbo in Korea, and Yixing Museum in China.
