LEE EUN CHAE

ABOUT ARTISTBIOGRAPHY Yi Eun Chae Fire is a medium which unlocks the world of daydreams inherent in man and opens up to forgotten memories. Fire is a physical imagination, and the original form of the fundamental image that revives memories. Candles, although a form of fire, are fundamentally different from fire. The candle, of all matters in the world that cause us to daydream, is one of the main factors that produces images in our minds, and activates our imagination. Therefore, candles are like ‘sensible symbols’ or ‘sensible objects’. As a sensible symbol, the candle makes man think. The ‘symbols of fire’ in candles revive ingrained memories in man through the ‘materiality of fire’, visualizing them into a synesthesia illusion. Thus, the daydreams of candles...

Artist-new-test

ABOUT ARTISTBIOGRAPHY YOO EUI JEONG The Latin “factum,” which is the origin of the English word “fact,” contains within it the meaning of “made.” For me this means that the truth as we know it is based upon things that are “made”—things that we construct. My works deal with the past of a future which is made to appear real. “The past of the future” in this context embraces the present, and what I deal with is the present. “The present” only exists because the past has existed. By the same token, the future is an extension of the present. As a contemporary artist, I take note of present phenomena. The current state in which our present culture exists is perhaps a corollary of the...

KO SAN KEUM

ABOUT ARTIST KO SAN KEUM Ko's work seem to emulate a braille book or the Morse code. For the past 10+ years, Ko has focused on symbolizing text using artificial pearl, marbles, and miniature tree branches. Her work can be derived from a text found in famous novel and poem, or everyday newspaper advertising. It helps to understand her past to understand why she has started this extremely labor intensive work. She almost lost her sight while she was studying in New York due to stress. During this time, when she picked up a book to read, she felt texts look like shining pearls in the incoming light. Miraculously, she recovered her eye sight, but she continues with her work that she says helps separates herself...
