JINAH SOHN

ABOUT ARTIST SOHN JINAH Jinah Sohn, who spent almost two decades creating art with chair as a motif, boldly adopted a very different style with “lines and patterns”, turning around her identity of “chair artist”. She concentrates on the basic instinctive act of drawing and on painting as a tool of expression, and shows it meticulously and laboriously in her works. Her new works are filled with dots, lines, and planes, which are essential figurative elements, but as nature gets combine with these elements, Sohn creates sophisticated and gorgeous works that transform the landscape into lush nature peppered with deep urban sentiment. Sohn touches on the basic feature of painting from multiple angles to create uniqueness exclusively based on her own tastes and sensations. A world...

YOUNGJOO HONG

ABOUT ARTIST HONG YOUNG JOO Even though people pursue the ideal, they live in sympathy with the reality. Since a conflict of the Real and the Ideal is inevitable, we live in the agony of choices. This conflict makes Ego and cuts it off from the outside world. The severance always prevents the ego from communicating to outside. I painted glass, nature, indoor space to depict the confined space of ego. Unlike the silent outside of glass, the inside is unstability. It is showing that the cause of alienation and instability between the real and the ideal, in fact, exists not outside but inside. The isolated ego is existence adopting to the reality with a passive attitude. This space represents the limit but also includes...

EUIJEONG YOO

ABOUT ARTIST YOO EUI JEONG The Latin “factum,” which is the origin of the English word “fact,” contains within it the meaning of “made.”For me this means that the truth as we know it is based upon things that are “made”—things that we construct. My works deal with the past of a future which is made to appear real. “The past of the future”in this context embraces the present, and what I deal with is the present. “The present” only exists because the past has existed. By the same token, the future is an extension of the present. As a contemporary artist, I take note of present phenomena. The current state in which our present culture exists is perhaps a corollary of the co-existence of the traditional and the modern, the analogue and the...

SEUNGMIN PAIK

ABOUT ARTIST PAIK SEUNG MIN This series embodies the image of a textually depicted virtual nation which exists within individual conception of creator. The main motif is sourced from overall systems, detailed stories, and national design surrounding the DIVERLAND, a virtual state which is nonexistent in the actual reality, and all the works organically converge on a bigger story. Textual contents herein are mainly expressed into metaphorical and symbolic images. As an imaginary nation, the DIVERLAND refers to a combination of ‘Divertimento’ and ‘land’ under the collision of fictional images. Overall, this series represents a new type of organism or mechanical equipment by combining individual images extracted from natural objects. Here, dissected body parts function as a material with emotional exclusion provided that beautiful animals...
